Spring Player of the Week Awards handed out

(YSCC) -- The 2018 spring season is underway and here are the first YSCC Player of the Week awards.

BASEBALL

WEEK 1
Amos Herrin, Southern Maine CC (Jr., IF/P - Wilton, Maine, 24)

Through 8 games and 21 at-bats at the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational, Herrin recorded a .381 batting avg and .435 OBP. He notched two extra-base hits including a home run. On the mound, Herrin debuted his spring with a complete game shutout, throwing 90 pitches to record 11 strikeouts in SMCC's 5-0 win over Waubonsee Community College on Mar. 10.

SOFTBALL

WEEK 2
Meaghan Sandler, Great Bay C.C. (Freshman, Infield - South Berwick, ME, 8)

The Great Bay Community College Softball Team traveled to Fort Myers, Florida to open their inaugural spring season last week. Meaghan Sandler, a freshman from South Berwick, ME took this opportunity to prove that she will be a threat this season. Meaghan played outstanding defense in their three Spring Break games, including handling all six opportunities at shortstop in the game against Castleton University. Meaghan led the team with a .400 batting average and .461 on-base percentage for the week. She scored three runs and had a stolen base. Meaghan did not strike out in 13 plate appearances and was a leader for the Herons the entire week.

Week 3

Christian Dow, Great Bay C.C. (Fr, Catcher/Pitcher - Rochester, NH, 11)

Christian Dow, a freshman from Rochester, NH, pitched a complete game shutout against the Community College of Rhode Island on Saturday during their season opener. He only allowed one hit and finished the game with five strikeouts. He showed a tremendous performance for the Herons against an excellent baseball program. The Herons finished the weekend with a 1-1 record.
