Mohamed Matan wins YSCC's second consecutive Men's Soccer DII POTW

(YSCC) - The Yankee Small College Conference is proud to announce the athletes of the week awards for Week 2 of the 2019-2020 Fall sports season. Additionally, the YSCC has a USCAA Player of the Week for the 2nd week in a row. Mohamed Matan of Southern Maine Community College wins the USCAA DII Men's Soccer Player of the Week. WOMEN'S SOCCER

She has led the defense all season and has rallied the rest of the defense behind her culminating in a 1-0 shutout victory over Paul Smiths for VTC first conference win in 4 years.

MEN'S SOCCER

Mohamed Matan | Southern Maine CC | FR | F

First-year striker Mohamed Matan scored seven goals in three games to go along with SMCC's 3-0 week; in all three wins netting the game-winner. The crafty forward contributed two assists, good for 16 points. The SeaWolves ride a 7-game win streak. 

BASEBALL

Joshua Paisley | Southern Maine CC | FR | OF/P

The rookie slugger went 8-18 from the dish (.444 .avg) spanning five games last week. He connected for four extra-base hits featuring two doubles and two triples (.778 .slg). He scored four runs, swiped two bags, and knocked in 10 runs for the SeaWolves. SMCC went 4-1 on the week and stands 9-1 overall.

VOLLEYBALL

Paige Farrington | Paul Smith's College | SR | S/DS

Paige set the Bobcats to a 4-0 record in this week's YSCC action. She had 75 assist & 19 service aces as she led the PSC Bobcats with wins over NHTI, UM Machias, GBCC & UMCC. Paul Smith College is in sole possession of the YSCC now with a 7-0 record in conference play and Paige has played a major role in that success.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Holly White | NHTI | FR | 6K

Holly White helped lead the NHTI women's cross country team to a 8th place finish at the 48th Pop Crowell Invitational. Holly completed the 6K course in a time of 33:18. 

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Josh Miller | Hampshire College | SR | 8K

Josh Miller led the Hampshire men at the Elms Blazer Invitational on Saturday 9/21, finishing 12th overall in 31:59 for 8K at Chicopee Memorial State Park. The Hampshire men finished 3rd, tying Hampshire's best-ever team finish at the Elms meet from 2 years ago, only 2 points behind second-place St. Joseph's (CT). The 31:59 was an 8K PR for Miller, besting his time from last year's YSCC conference meet by 22 seconds.
