Mustangs End Season With Home Loss to Clippers

Auburn, ME - The University of Maine at Machias Clippers rolled into Auburn for the Mustangs season finale.   Central Maine, coming off a series of close games over the past few weeks was hopeful to avenge an earlier loss to the Clippers and for a while it appeared that might happen.   But midway through the first half, Machias got on the scoreboard on a Clayre Saunders goal assisted by Cayla Thomas.   Three minutes later Emma LeGallais gave the Clippers a 2-0 lead off a feed by Samantha Shaneybrook and the score would remain that way at halftime.    Kayla Angelico would open the second half with an unassisted goal three minutes in to give Machias a 3-0 lead.   A Cayla Thomas penalty kick would make the score 4-0 and a goal with two minutes left in the game by Clayre Saunders, her second of the match, on an assist by LeGallais would finish the Mustangs off with a 5-0 final score.   Mustangs goalkeeper Maggie McConkey would make 18 saves off 23 Clipper shots and Central Maine finished the season with a 2-4-2 record.
