Baseball wins season series with NHTI

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team took down the Lynx from NHTI 7-6 in the rubber game of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) regular season series on Sunday, Apr. 14.

The Lynx opened scoring in the third inning, pushing across five runs, thanks to hits from Matt Drewes, Joe Gutierrez, and Kyle Slate.

The Seawolves clawed back, scattering runs across the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. With two on and one out in the eighth inning, Brady Wintle (Gorham, Maine) launched a three-run homer to even the score at 6-6. First-year Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) came around to score on a wild pitch later in the same inning which proved to be the game-winning run.

On the pitching side, sophomore Gabe Aucoin (Bath, Maine) made the start for SMCC, pitching three innings and allowing five runs. Sophomore captain Dante Tocci (Portland, Maine) picked up the win, pitching five innings and only allowing one run. First-year Bennett Smith (Falmouth, Maine) closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.

NHTI's Isiah Gutierrez was taxed the loss pitching 7.1 innings.

The Seawolves improve to 16-8 overall, 2-1 in conference action, and will host York County Community College on Monday, Apr. 15 in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
