Seawolves double up on Hawks

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team took two from the Hawks of York County Community College (YCCC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader on Monday, Apr. 15.

Game 1: W, 5-3

The Seawolves managed to score a run in the second inning, but the Hawks claimed a lead of their own in the fourth, with Brady Doherty hitting a single to bring in two runs. Emerson Brown managed to score on a passed ball, putting YCCC in the driver's seat.

The Seawolves came alive in the sixth inning as first-year Brady Wintle (Gorham, Maine) hit a triple, bringing in three runs for his team. First-year Alex Bean (Westbrook, Maine) followed up with a base knock, bringing in another run and solidifying another lead change.

Rookie right-hander Max Noto (Wentzville, Mo.) made the start for the Seawolves, giving up three runs in five innings. First-years Brady O'Lone (Fort Myers, Fl.) and Bennett Smith (Falmouth, Maine) came out of the bullpen to provide effective relief.

On the other side, Maxim Masse was taxed the loss, giving up five runs in six innings.

Game 2: W, 6-1

YCCC took an early lead using a sacrifice fly by Ashton Smith to bring in Caden Petit. SMCC co-captain Dante Tocci (Portland, Maine) responded with a single to bring in Wintle, tying the game.

The Seawolves took control in the fourth inning when first-year Adam Rowland (Alberta, Canada) hit a double to bring in Wintle and Liam Cooledge (Westbrook, Maine). First-year Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) and Wintle also contributed with hits to bring in runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.

On the pitching side, SMCC's Leudys Castillo (Estero, Fl.) put together a strong performance tossing six innings, allowing only one run on three hits, and striking out five batters. YSCC's Jack Sullivan took the loss after pitching five innings and allowing five runs.

The result moves SMCC to 18-8 overall, 4-1 in conference action.

The Seawolves travel to rival Central Maine Community College on Wednesday, Apr. 17 for another YSCC doubleheader. First-pitch in Auburn is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
