Randolph Center, VT - The Vermont Tech men's soccer team opened the 2021 season against a perienally tough opponent. A team with 7 freshman and 8 sophomores defended well to limit Fisher college to no scorce until the 34th minute with a breakdown in communication from the defense. A second defensive error at the 43rd minute, combined with no shots on goal by the Knights, put Fisher College up 2-0 at the half.
The Knights started the second half stronger, with a shot immediately by Fisher, countered bya fast break and a shot on goal by Sophomore Thomas Kurkulonis, which ended up in another fast break by Fisher and a goal scored within the first 7 minutes of the second half, putting the Knights down 3-0. The remainder of the game showed tight defensive play by the Knights, and shots peppered at the Knights keeper. Goaltender Thomas Ferguson played fabulously under pressure, saving 11 of 15 shots on goal, several of which were spectacular saves.
The Knights play next on tuesday against NVU Johnson at home.
