SMCC Men Suffer First Road Loss

NEWPORT, R.I.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team suffered a 76-55 defeat by the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy Preparatory School in non-conference action on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The SeaWolves posted a season-low point total and were handed a home/away sweep by the Midshipmen, losing by a six-point margin earlier this season.

In a post-game interview, Associate Head Coach AJ Burton stated, "This one was tough for our guys. Going into this game we knew that Navy Prep is a team that plays with toughness and grit for all forty minutes. We know that we must match that same intensity in order to be successful. Lots of learning lessons from this game, but win or lose this is always a special trip for both of our men's and women's teams to experience."

The result leaves SMCC 15-5 overall, dropping its first game on the road this season at 8-1. Navy Prep stands 11-5 thus far.

Next, the SeaWolves will travel to Concord, N.H. to do battle with NHTI in part-two of the season series Thursday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. WATCH.
