Baseball beats CMCC, earns YSCC regular season title

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team defeated the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 5-1 on Thursday, Apr. 25 to capture its seventh straight Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) regular season title.

First-year Jason Libby (Bangor, Maine) allowed only one run over four hits in a complete game effort. Libby's sensational outing featured six strikeouts and no walks.

The Seawolves got on the board in the 4th inning when first-year Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) reached on an error, allowing rookie Brady Wintle (Gorham, Maine) to score. They added to their lead in the 7th inning with RBI contributions from sophomore co-captain Andrew Nielsen (Merrimack, N.H.), sophomore co-captain Dante Tocci (Portland, Maine), and first-year Adam Rowland (Alberta, Canada).

On the other side, the Mustangs scratched across their only run in the ninth on a fielder's choice RBI by Colton Frisbie. CMCC's Levi Tibbetts took the loss on the mound, giving up two runs in five innings of work.

The result pushes SMCC to 24-10 overall, 9-3 in league action.

The action continues when the Seawolves play host to the Knights from the Community College of Rhode Island on Friday, Apr. 26. First pitch in South Portland is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
