SMCC grabs win in home opener

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team took down Massasoit Community College in straight sets on Sunday, Sept. 10.

SMCC overcame Massasoit in each set by a 7-point margin or greater. In total, the Seawolves recorded 14 kills, 11 errors, and 63 total attempts—their attack percentage was 0.159%.

Junior captain Rachel Pardi (Portland, Maine) stood out with eight kills and a kill percentage of 53.8%. Sophomore Anna White (Buxton, Maine) contributed with four kills and a kill percentage of 27.3%.

Sophomore Breanna Kerr (Lawrenceville, Ga.) put together a strong serving performance, recording six aces and no errors- she also totaled eight digs. White recorded five aces and seven digs, while first-year Candace Pelotte (Sydney, Maine) had three aces and two digs.

SMCC's strong attacking and serving game, combined with solid defensive efforts, contributed to its first home victory of the year. The Seawolves stand 2-1 overall.

Next, SMCC hosts conference foe NHTI on Wednesday, Sept. 13. First serve at The HUB is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
