Moose Slip in Final Seconds

(Augusta, ME) Heart rates were racing for a thrilling finish Wednesday, November 8th, when the Thomas Terriers beat the UMA Moose 92 -91. In front of a great Augusta Civic Center crowd, the Moose found energy early and put the Terriers behind 36 - 47 at the half. The Terriers found a 2nd half boost when UMA Moose, Trevor Beals, picked up 2 quick fouls, sending him to the bench with 4. The Moose held on to the lead until 7:55 into the the 2nd half when the Terriers took a 56-55 lead. Thomas would extend their lead to 5 until the Moose would fight back and retake the lead with just over 5 minutes remaining. It was back and forth for the next few moments, until UMA's Donte Sharpe grabbed a rebound and found isaiah Searles open for a layup taking a 90 - 84 lead over the Terriers with 48 seconds left in regulation. Thomas's Mark McDonald would force a quick foul and get to the line, stopping the clock. The Terriers would rebound the 2nd missed attempt and draw another Moose foul where Cooper Wirkala would make both from the line, leading to a 3 point gain with limited time running off the game clock. The Terriers would send the Moose to the line several times, trying to create more time opportunities. Unfortunately, the Moose who would shoot 76% from the line, couldn't find a free throw rhythm to close out the game. Thomas's Cooper Wirkala would hit a 3 pointer with 3.7 seconds left which would lead to the Terriers win 92 - 91.

The Moose were led by Yonas Medfu (24 pts), Trevor Beals (19 pts), and Elijah Smith (14 pts). Other notable stars for the Moose were Isaiah Searles  (11 pts) and Roger Vasquez (11 pts).
