Strong Freshman Showing Comes Up Just Short

(Augusta, ME) The University of Maine at Augusta Moose and the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves tipped off Wednesday, November 15, in a highly anticipated YSCC clash. The first half was a true battle of possession, with the Moose gaining the largest lead of the half of 6 points mid way through the first 20 minutes. A late three made by SMCC's Caymen Warburton lead the Seawolves to the locker rooms with a 36-35 lead at the end of the first half. The Moose were looking to answer back quickly, and with some halftime adjustments, UMA would start by going on a 8 point run. The Moose would maintain the led for the first 8 minutes, until the Seawolves chipped their way back, tieing the game 48-48 with 12:20 on the clock. SMCC continued to move into the lead and were able to hold off a great attempt by the Moose to come back. The Moose were led by Freshman Isaiah Searles, 14pts - 9 rebounds - 3 blocks, Zach Maturo, 14pts - 3 assists - 2 steals, and Trevor Beals, 13pts - 7 rebounds - 2 steals. Even though the Moose have not been able to find themselves in the win column, the future still looks positive, as the young freshmen are improving every game. The Moose will next play against UNE on Saturday, November 18 at 1pm in Biddeford.
