Softball concludes regular season with sweep over NHTI

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team swept the Lynx from NHTI in the final Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) series of the season on Sunday, Apr. 28.

Prior to the game, Head Coach Chris Caswell celebrated Kassidy Barrett (Windsor, Maine) who would be playing her final game with the Seawolves.

Game 1: W, 22-0

The Seawolves displayed an impressive offensive showing, scoring three runs in the first inning, followed by 11 runs in the second, and adding four runs in each of the third and fourth innings.

First-years Olivia Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) and Sarah Wilkins (Alberta, Canada) led SMCC at the plate; Hill was a perfect 5-5 with six RBIs and Wilkins contributed three hits and three RBIs.

Wilkins put together another dominant start inside the circle, holding NHTI to just 1 hit and striking out seven batters on her way to a complete game win.

Game 2: W, 9-6

Again, the Seawolves were effective at the plate, outhitting NHTI 15-9. First-year Veronica Mercier (Bangor, Maine) and Hill led the way offensively, with Mercier scoring three runs and Hill driving in four.

Inside the circle, first-year Jaida Case (Machias, Maine) was credited the win pitching five strong innings to allow just one run.

NHTI's Bella Ferrazzani delivered a 3-run homerun in the seventh inning to be named player of the game for the Lynx.

The Seawolves finish their regular season 18-12 and 7-1 in conference play. SMCC will await the USCAA bid show on Tuesday, May 7 and a possible invitation to the Small College World Series in DuBois, Penn.
