Mustangs Win at Bristol

Taunton, MA - The Mustangs traveled down to Taunton, MA on Friday to take on an NJCAA team Bristol Community College on a brand new grass field at their Taunton campus. While resting some of the players who have been logging a lot of minutes, the Mustangs decided to test the depth of their team, using a somewhat different lineup.  It took some time for Central Maine to get used to a much different surface than what they have been training and playing on and looked flat for the first fifteen minutes of the game, unable to connect on passes, change direction quickly and get up and down the field the way they are used to.

The game was a back and forth contest for the first 35 minutes with both teams getting some quality chances at each others net.   Just over 35 minutes into the game midfielder Allie Adams (South Paris, ME) sent a ball to forward Emma Johnon (Monmouth, ME) who found midfielder Maddie Drew (Sabattus, ME) breaking towards the Bayhawks net.   Drew sent the ball into the bottom right corner to earn her first collegiate goal.    The half would end with Central Maine up 1-0.

The second half saw Bristol make some adjustments and come out controlling more of the play and again it took Central Maine about fifteen minutes to get back in a rhythm together.    With 13 minutes left to go in the game, forward Mya Sirois (Monmouth, ME) stole a ball from the Bayhawks defense and took it to net putting it in near post to put Central Maine up 2-0 and the game would finish that way.

Allie Annear (Auburn, ME) made 12 saves to earn the shutout for the Mustangs and Gilliana Abbott made 9 saves in the loss for Bristol.

The Mustangs play again Saturday, September 17 in Syracuse, NY against USCAA defending national champions SUNY ESF in a 1 pm kickoff at Tully Field.
