Moose hold down the Den

Augusta, ME - The Moose walked away with a big conference victory over the Seawolves of SMCC at the Augusta Civic Center on Wednesday, Nov. 16 with a final score of 73-78. 

 

The Seawolves took a quick lead starting the game on a 8-0 run. Halfway through the first half the Moose were able to lock the game at 16-16. The Seawolves were able to take their largest lead of the game at 32-21 with 5:32 remaining in the half at which point the Moose took a timeout and from there came out of the timeout with a big three from Zach Maturo to bring it back to within single digits. The Moose were able to finish the first half on a 11-4 run which lead to the Seawolves taking a 40-37 lead into the half.

 

The second half was lead by a strong 10-0 run in the first 2 minutes and 14 seconds which forced SMCC to take a timeout. The Seawolves battled back to take the lead and it wasn't until 6:17 remaining in the game that the Moose were able to pull ahead again on an offensive rebound and ensuing layup from Maurice Hodge Jr. The Moose didn't look back extending the lead to 11 points (63-74) with 3:09 remaining in the contest. The Seawolves did battle back though and saw themselves pull within 3 points with 46 seconds remaining (10-2 run over 2 minute 23 seconds) but the Moose were able to hang on for a 73-78 victory. 

 

 The Seawolves were led by Jack Pyzynski 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals.

 

The Moose were led by 5 players in double figures in what was a team effort. Elijah Smith 17 points, 4 rebounds…Yonas Medfu 13 points, 4 rebounds…Maurice Hodge Jr. 11 points, 5 rebounds…Jalaughn Jackson 11 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists…Zach Maturo 10 points, 7 rebounds

 

The Moose improve to 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Yankee Small College Conference. Next game is Saturday 11/19 at Thomas College
