Paul Smith’s College (Paul Smith’s, NY) wins Yankee Small College Conference Bowling Championship; NHTI’s Meghan Masury win women’s title, Rob Jackson of Great Bay Community College wins Men’s Title

Hallowell, Me, April 15, 2012 – Paul Smith’s College of Paul Smiths, NY capture the YSCC Bowling Championship Sunday April 15, 2012 at Sparetime Recreation in’s Hallowell, Me. Paul Smith’s entered the tournament as the #1 seed after leading conference in points for the regular season. In the quarterfinals, the Bobcats defeated # 8 UMA/Bangor (Bangor, Me) 545.2 – 327.  In the semi-finals, Paul Smith’s came back from a 13 point deficit after 2 games to defeat Eastern Maine Community College ( Bangor, Me) 492.2 to 467.6 to move to the Championship Match against NHTI of Concord, NH. EMCC defeated # 4 Unity College in the quarterfinals. NHTI entered as the # 6 seed, and knocked off # 3 UMA (Augusta, Me) 487.2-464 in the quarterfinals. In the Semi-finals, NHTI upset the tournament # 2 seed Great Bay Community College (Portsmouth, NH) by 6.2 points to head to the finals.  In the finals, Paul Smith’s College jumped out to an early 20.8 point lead, led by Ryan McGowan’s 235 games. The Bobcats extended their lead to 54.8 after the second game and went on to win by a total 489.4 to 453.6 to capture the 2012 YSCC Bowling Championship. Along with McGowan, Ryan Kelley, Connor McCuin, James Chamberlain and Layne Darfler are members of the Championship team.

On Saturday, Meghan Masury of NHTI claimed the women's conference individual title with a 211 -117 match play win over Katrina Muecci of EMCC. Masury qualified first for the final four with a 549 three game series. In the semifinals, Masury and Kim Demello (UMA) tied at 143 in match play and went to a 9 frame roll-off. After the roll-off, Masury and Demello tied at 40 pins and went to a second roll-off where Masury won 48-37. Meucci qualified third with a 415 series and defeated Jennifer Delvin (NHTI) 133-126.

In the Men’s division, Unity College’s Jason Duryea qualified first with a 630 series followed by Great Bay Community College’s Jimmy Place second (547 series), GBCC’s Rob Knightly third (542 series), and GBCC’s Rob Jackson fourth (528 series). In semifinal play, Jackson knocked off the #1 seed Duryea 209-189 and Jimmy Place defeated fellow teammate Knightly 211-182. The finals featured GBCC teammates Place and Jackson with Rob Jackson taking the title 201-169.
