Martin’s Double-Double Helps SMCC By BFIT

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team rolled to an 81-58 victory over the Chargers from Ben Franklin Institute of Technology to christen a new floor at the HUB Gymnasium on Thursday, Nov. 1.

The home team found themselves trailing by one near midway through the first half before SMCC erupted for a 14-2 run to get up by double digits. The SeaWolves finished the half ahead 12, much to do with sophomore Gregory Trinidad's (Lawrence, Mass.) 13 first-half points.

SMCC came out of the break to score seven quick ones and never let off the gas. Seven reserves contributed for a combined 23 bench points in the second half to help the SeaWolves to an eventual 28-point lead near the end of regulation—their largest of the night.

In his return to the HUB, senior Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine) recorded his first double-double of the season to lead his team with 21 points and 10 boards. Trinidad posted 17 points, and sophomore point guard Jacobee Burpee (Manchester, N.H.) totaled a season high 13 dimes in 29 minutes.

The SeaWolves finished 47 percent from the floor on 31-66 shooting and flushed 12 three-pointers at a near 43 percent clip.

Ben Franklin's Romario Ebanks led all scorers in the game with 22, sinking four three-pointers in 35 minutes of action.

The SeaWolves stay perfect at 3-0 overall as the Chargers drop their first of the season.

Next, SMCC hosts the Midshipmen from the Naval Academy Preparatory School in another non-conference matchup on Saturday, Nov. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. Following the game, SMCC Athletics will be holding the 13th annual SeaWolves Hall of Fame ceremony—inducting Coleman Findlay (Men's Basketball '11) and Elizabeth (Ouellette) Cote (Women's Basketball '08) as Class of 2018.
