Cloutier Illustrious Joins 1,000-Club, SeaWolves Defend The HUB

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team dominated in a 84-66 win over the Clippers from the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) battle on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The SeaWolves outscored their opponent in both halves—limiting the Clippers to just 66 points in total and improving on their YSCC-best 56.9 points-against. A similar stat-line all in all, the SeaWolves separated themselves by limiting the turnovers with just nine in comparison to UMM's 22.

Senior captain Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine) compiled his fifth double-double of the year with 23 points and 10 boards. Senior captain Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) reached the elite 1,000-point total on a made free-throw part of 20 points in the contest. Sophomore Gregory Trinidad (Lawrence, Mass.) and junior captain Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine) also toppled double-digit scoring.

UMM's Dante Ramos led his team with 23 points on 11-20 shooting—he added eight rebounds and four steals.

With the result, SMCC jumps to 8-1 overall, 4-0 YSCC; Machias dips to .500 at 4-4 overall, 3-1 in league play.

The action continues when the SeaWolves travel to Concord, N.H. to take on the #10 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA)-ranked Lynx of NHTI in another YSCC contest on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. WATCH.
