AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team captured its first win at Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC)-rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) since 2014, defeating the mustangs by a 20-point spread on Wednesday, Dec. 12.

In the midst of a buzzing crowd, the road SeaWolves trailed 15-14 near the midpoint of the first half, but used a 22-5 run to seal a 16-point advantage going in at the break. First-half highlights featured 10 points and eight rebounds from senior captain Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine).

Senior captain Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) knocked down a three-pointer for the SeaWolves on the first possession of the second to limit any momentum from the home squad. This time it was junior captain Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine) with a 10-point effort in the half.

SMCC made up for its struggle inside with 12 made threes at a 38.7 percent clip. The Mustangs suffered from 31.1 percent shooting and 8-18 from the charity stripe.

Cloutier flushed a game-high 17 points on 6-12 shooting and 5-8 from three-point land. Kavutse and Martin both finished with 12, combining for 22 rebounds.

CMCC was led by Josh Chery's 13 points.

The SeaWolves round out the semester atop the YSCC standings at 6-1, 10-2 overall. The Mustangs sport a 6-2 record in league action, 10-3 overall.

SMCC will begin 2019 on the road at the Community College of Rhode Island, what is considered a non-conference game, on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tip-off in Warwick is set for 3 p.m.
