SeaWolves Bounce Back In Convincing Fashion

AUGUSTA, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team dominated the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta 103-64 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) game at the Augusta Civic Center on Thursday, Jan. 10.

The SeaWolves held a slim one-point advantage 26-25 with 8:56 remaining in the first, before stringing together a 28-7 run to finish the half and begin the second. The road team managed to keep its distance with 33 points from the bench and a season-high 66 rebounds. The SeaWolves also attempted a season-high 45 three-pointers and connected on 33.3 percent.

Senior captain Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine) finished with maybe his most complete state line of the year in 25 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, five steals, and three blocks. Sophomore Gregory Trinidad (Lawrence, Mass.) totaled 17 points on five three-pointers made, followed by 13 points from junior captain Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine). Sophomore Seth Provencher (Seabrook, N.H.) matched a season-high 12 points in just six minutes on the floor.

UMA was led by Bryce Gibson's 15 points off the bench. Israel Brown and Alex LaFountain contributed 13 apiece, while Dustin Simpson-Bragg was held to a season-low four points.

SMCC picks up its conference-leading seventh victory of the season and improves to 11-3 overall. The Moose slip to 3-5 YSCC, 3-13 overall.

The SeaWolves continue their conference slate on Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host the Bobcats from Paul Smith's College on Timothy Hagerman Alumni Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. followed by the basketball alumni games at 5/5:30 p.m. WATCH.
