SMCC Rolls To Season Sweep Over Paul Smith’s

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team picked up a 77-63 win over the Bobcats from Paul Smith's College on Timothy D. Hagerman Alumni Day, Saturday, Jan. 12.

The SeaWolves offense sprang into action off the tip beginning the game on a 30-6 run. The home team continued to pour it on, scoring 51 in the first half and outscoring the opponent by a 26-point margin. SMCC connected for 53.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes.

Paul Smith's won the second half 38-26 and finished the game on a 19-2 run. Having built a comfortable lead, SMCC managed to play out the clock and secure a 14-point victory.

Senior captain Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) led the way with 17 points, now totaling 976 in a SeaWolf uniform. Senior captain Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine) contributed 16 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks. Already a 1,000-point scorer, Martin brings his point total up to 954 in his career at SMCC.

Sophomore Sean Bowering (Englewood, Colo.) finished with a season-high nine points on 4-8 shooting.

Paul Smith's Adam Seguin led his team with 16 points on 6-9 shooting. Sterling Scott recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Matt Richards commented, "We did well to command the glass and knock down our chances from the free-throw line. Our starting five dominated in their time on the floor, but our bench suffered from the turnover bug late—a focus point in practice this week. Thank you to all of the alumni who came out in support of the scholarship!"
