SeaWolves Labor Offensively In Newport

NEWPORT, R.I.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team was downed 58-52 by the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy Preparatory School in a non-conference bout on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The SeaWolves ruined an eight-game win streak posting a season-low 52 points. However, it was a low scoring affair for both teams and SMCC limited their opponent to just 58 points—16 points fewer than their previous meeting back in November. The all-time series returns to .500 (8-8) as the SeaWolves suffer the season sweep by the Midshipmen.

Following the contest, Head Coach Matt Richards reflected, "Although it wasn't the result we hope for, it's always an enjoyable road trip for our programs. Wonderful people, gracious hosts, and student-athletes who intend to represent our country."

With three more regular season games to go, SMCC sports an 18-4 record overall and remain 13-1 in league play. The Midshipmen improve to 12-4 thus far.

The "best small college basketball rivalry in Maine" continues when the conference-leading SeaWolves play host to the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at The HUB.  WATCH.
