NHTI Lynx win the 2019 YSCC Men's Championship

AUBURN, Maine (YSCC) -- The NHTI Lynx defended their 2018 crown by taking home the 2019 YSCC Men's championship.

The Lynx defeated the SMCC Seawolves 90-78.

The first half went as expected as both teams played hard and made runs.

SMCC started out hot, led by YSCC Player of the Year Atencio Martin. Martin scored the first seven points for the Seawolves, finishing the half with 20 points.

NHTI countered with strong performances by YSCC First Team All-Conference player J'Quavious Thurmond, finishing the half with 15 points.

Play went back and forth the entire half with nine lead changes.

YSCC First Team All-Conference player Ryan Cloutier finished a strong half by nailing an off-balance three at the buzzer to give the Seawolves a 48-47 lead at the half.

The second half was all NHTI.

YSCC Second Team All-Conference player Deric Jackson hit for 8 early points to give the Lynx a 63-60 lead midway through the second half.

The latter half of the game belonged to Dominick Presendieu who put an exclimation point on his game with a big 3 that put the Lynx up by 12 with just over a minute to go in the game. Presendieu finished the game with 17 points for the Lynx. Lynx leading scorer was J'Quavious Thurmond with 20 and Deric Jackson wet for 18.

Martin led all scorers with 22 and Cloutier finished with 18 for the Seawoves.

Both teams will head to Uniontown, Pennsylvania for the USCAA National Tournament next week.
