NHTI takes SMCC Tournament at Purpoodock

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (SMCC) —Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) golf hosted a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) match at Purpoodock Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 22.—NHTI and the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) were both in attendance.

For the second year at Purpoodock, NHTI placed first among competitors posting a 362. UMA turned in a team 381, followed by SMCC at 453.

NHTI medaled two individuals—Trevor Moore placed first firing an 84 and Tyler Burt third carding an 89. UMA's John Alden scored one worse than Moore to place second.

First-year Robert Caron (Naples, Maine) led the SeaWolves with a 99 while three others finished above 100 strokes. First-year Joseph Cawthon (Delray Beach, Fla.) 112, senior Conor Alexander (Belfast, Maine) 119, and sophomore Tyler Hensley (Reedsville, Ohio) 123.

Following the round, Head Coach Chuck Ott commented, "Given the nature of golf and how easy it is to allow one misplaced shot to lead to another and another, I am actually proud how the SMCC golfers hung in there and persevered on a challenging course. We have a week to prepare for out next outing, and I have every confidence that with a focused week of practice the team will move in the right direction—lowering their scores and building some confidence in preparation for the YSCC Championship."
