SeaWolves Make It Three Straight

AUBURN, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College soccer team defeated the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College 2-1 to earn its third Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Sophomore Bronson Kieltyka (Monmouth, Maine) netted his third goal of the season on a deliverance from first-year midfielder Tristan Campbell (Parsonsfield, Maine) at the 9:30 mark to give SMCC a 1-0 advantage. Minutes later in the half, first-year Ryan Forkey (Derry, N.H.) finished a pass from Douglas Cloutier (Berwick, Maine) to double the SeaWolves lead.

Central Maine jumped on the scoreboard in the second half courtesy of a goal by Ryan Bennett in the 66th minute. However, the SeaWolves held the Mustang offense at bay for the remainder of the match to extend their winning streak to three games.

SMCC goal keeper Patrick Duddy (Sedgwick, Maine) made two saves on three shot attempts.

Head Coach Brian Dougher commented, "When Central Maine and Southern Maine meet it's always a battle. Our team worked well together and took care of business. This win puts us in a great spot in the conference standings." The SeaWolves coaching staff named sophomore Kolin Wyman (Bridgton, Maine) and Duddy as Men of the Match.

SMCC improves to 3-1 in the conference standings, trailing the University of Maine- Machias by one game in the North Division. The action continues when the SeaWolves host the division leader on Sunday, Oct. 2 for a shot at the number one seed with two conference games remaining. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
