Paul Smith's Men’s Soccer Splits first weekend of conference play.

The Bobcat's opened up conference play on Saturday, September 8 at home against University of Maine at Machias. In the opening 20 minutes of the game, each team saw chances around the goal. It was in the 22^nd minute that forward Nate Smith (#7) found the back of the net, shooting near post to beat the keeper. After this goal you could sense a change in the momentum. The Bobcat's continued to dominate possession when during the 54^th minute, forward Corey Nystrom (#20) scored from a pass by midfielder Louis Daversa (#9) to the 6 yard box. Paul Smith's continued the increased pressure to create opportunities. In the 72^nd minute of the game, center midfielder Kyle King (#10) walked in the final goal. The Bobcat's won their conference opener 3 – 0.

The team had to endure a quick turnaround for a 1pm game with Unity College on Sunday, September 9. From the beginning of the game, possession went back and forth until Unity was able to score in the 25^th minute of the game. Despite the Bobcat's having a dozen shots on goal, they were unable to find the back of net resulting in Unity winning the game 1 – 0.

When asked how he felt about the split this past weekend, Coach Luzzi responded "I am happy about the way we played and our ability to maintain composure. With Machias beating us last season by 7 and Unity beating us last year by 4, I would consider this a significant improvement. Our team is looking forward to continued success in conference play."
