Lady SeaWolves Oust Mustangs In YSCC Doubleheader

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team took care of business in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader sweep of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Friday, April 29.

Game 1: W, 9-1 (five innings)

Box Score

First-year Sarah Guimond (East Waterboro, Maine) continues to separate herself as the conference leader in wins, earned run average, and strikeouts, picking up her eighth victory of the year by allowing no earned runs and striking out 10.

Eight players recorded a hit in the first game—first year Emma Burns (Berwick, Maine) smacked her sixth double of the season, and Guimond with her second triple.

The SMCC offense wasted no time in posting four runs in the first frame and then extended its lead in the second and fourth innings. Sophomore Danielle Goodwin (South Berwick, Maine) came up with the decisive RBI in the bottom half of the fifth to give the Lady SeaWolves the eight-run win.

Game 2: W, 11-0 (five innings)

Box Score

In making her seventh start of the season, first-year Kristen Mackenzie (Seabrook, N.H.) pitched the complete game shutout and kept the Mustang offense at bay giving up just two singles.

First-year Kaylah Abdul (South Berwick, Maine) was a perfect 3-3 from the dish to climb to the top of the leaderboard in batting average (.589)—which leads the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

The Lady SeaWolves connected for five extra-base hits and three or more runs in three innings.

Mackenzie grabbed her fifth win of the season by retiring the side in order in the top-half of the fifth. CMCC's Olivia York was taxed with the loss.

SMCC improves to 7-1 YSCC, 13-4 overall. CMCC falls to 0-9 overall.

Both teams do it again in part two of the weekend series on Saturday, April 29. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m. LIVE STATS available HERE.
