Ring’s Seven-RBI Day Powers Regular Season Finale Sweep

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team completed a non-conference two-game sweep of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Monday, Apr. 30 in its final regular season play date.

Game 1: W, 13-1 (5 innings) | BOX
Sophomore Kristen Mackenzie (Seabrook, N.H.) pitched her eighth complete game in her fourteenth start this season. The righty allowed one run over five hits and two walks—she struck out five. Opposite was CMCC's Olivia York.

CMCC was the first team to cross home plate, but it was the Lady SeaWolves who took a two-run lead in the third courtesy of a three-run bomb by sophomore Kahli Philobotte (Hooksett, N.H.). The home team opened it up in the fourth posting nine runs on eight hits and three errors.

Philibotte was a perfect 4-4 at the dish as part of SMCC's 15 total hits.

SMCC used a 12-run lead to finish the game in five innings and give Mackenzie her eleventh victory of the year. York suffered the loss.

Game 2: W, 11-1 (5 innings) | BOX
Sophomore Sarah Guimond (East Waterboro, Maine) took the ball in part-two of the double dip, again to face CMCC starter Olivia York. Guimond totaled nine strikeouts and one unearned run spanning two hits and just one walk.

Alike the first game, it was the Mustangs who struck first on an RBI single delivered by Ali Sult. The SeaWolves knotted the score at 1-1 on a Philibotte single to left field in the third before blowing the doors open with six in the fourth inning and a grand slam in the fifth by the three-hitter Sara Ring (Wells, Maine).

The Wolves went ahead by 10 to again cut the game short in the fifth to improve to 20-14 overall. Guimond notched her eighth win and 79th strikeout of the season.

SMCC has secured the three-seed in the four-team Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) softball tournament at Great Bay Community College on Saturday, May 5. The SeaWolves await the result of the NHTI vs. College of St. Joseph (Vt.) doubleheader later this week to find out their semifinal opponent.
