Offense On Display In Doubleheader Softball Sweep

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team took both in five innings from the University of New England club team in a non-conference twinbill on Sunday, Apr. 7 at Graves Athletic Field.

Game 1: W, 18-1 (5 innings) | BOX

The Lady Wolves came out swinging pushing four across in the first frame and another five in the second highlighted by doubles courtesy of junior Kahli Philibotte (Hooksett, N.H.) and first-year Jordan Boucher (Berwick, Maine). SMCC erupted for nine runs on five hits and two errors in the third to blow the door open on a 17-run victory.

The SeaWolves wrapped up in five innings limiting UNE to just one run on two hits.

Sophomore captain Meranda Martin (Richmond, Maine) tossed four innings of one-hit softball to earn her second win of the season. First-year Emily Long (Rockport, Maine) came out of the pen to strike out two in one inning of work.

Four recorded multi-hit games led by a perfect 4-4 from sophomore captain Sara Ring (Wells, Maine)—to include four RBIs, two runs, and a double. Martin helped her cause with three hits in five trips to the dish, and Boucher added two hits and three RBIs to the box score.

Game 2: W, 11-3 (5 innings) | BOX

The SeaWolves picked up where right where they left off in game one, posting seven runs spread among the first two innings. UNE kept pace with three runs in a 7-3 game before the SeaWolves put up four more to finish in the bottom of the fifth by the eight-run rule.

First-year Emily Chasse (Monmouth, Maine) tossed a complete game to pick up her first collegiate win. The right-hander gave up three runs, one earned, over seven hits.

Martin picked up two more hits and a walk in this one, ahead of the 2-3-4 hitters who all logged multi-RBI games. First-year Emily Lashua (Auburn, Maine) connected for a double, two RBIs, and two runs to bring her average to .441 on the season.

The result pushes SMCC to 6-5 overall.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Ray Magnant commented, "Today we brought excitement and energy to the dugout. The girls were able to excel in all phases of the game—a confidence we hope to bring to a six-game conference stretch beginning next week."

The SeaWolves will open conference play, Tuesday, Apr. 9 when they play host to the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College in doubleheader action starting at 3:30 p.m. LIVE STATS.
