SeaWolves Softball Dominant In Home Drubbing Of CMCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team defeated the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) double dip, both by the eight-run rule, at Graves Athletic Field on Tuesday, April 16.

Game 1: W, 10-1 (5 innings) | BOX

Sophomore captain Meranda Martin (Richmond, Maine) took the circle in her sixth start of the season to toss a complete game and record a career-high nine strikeouts. Martin allowed just four hits, one walk, and one unearned run to collect her fourth win of the year.

Martin supported her cause with three hits including an inside-the-park homerun to lead off the first inning. She finished with three runs and a stolen base. Sophomore Morgan Boyle (Portland, Maine) connected for a two-out, 2-RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fifth to put her team ahead by the run-rule and conclude game one—part of a 2-hit, 3-RBI performance.

SMCC pushed runs across in every inning but the third to hand CMCC's Megan Theriault the loss.

Game 2: W, 15-3 (5 innings) | BOX

It was first-year Emily Chasse (Monmouth, Maine) who took the rubber in game two and was dominate through five innings. Chasse surrendered three runs, one earned, over eight hits to pick up her second win of her rookie season.

First-year Emily Lashua (Auburn, Maine) recorded the only multi-hit game for the SeaWolves, one of which a 2-RBI triple to center field. Lashua leads her team with 23 RBIs; Martin registered another hit to bring her season average to .525.

The home team scored 15 in the first three innings to extend its new win streak to two.

SMCC improves to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference standings; the Mustangs fall to 2-8 and remain winless at 0-6 in YSCC play.

The Lady SeaWolves continue their conference slate with two vs. Great Bay Community College at Alumni-Wentworth Field in Portsmouth, N.H. Thursday, April 18. Game times begin 6/8 p.m.
