Bench Play Spurs Yet Another YSCC Win

AMHERST, Mass.— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team defeated the Black Sheep from Hampshire College 87-29 to earn its fifth straight Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory on Saturday, Jan. 27.

SMCC made 33 of 91 shot attempts (36.3 percent) and assisted on 22 to match a season-high point total. Four finished in double figures for the SeaWolves led by sophomore Adrianna White (Lisbon, Maine) who posted 18 points on 7-14 from the field, 2-3 from downtown.

First-years Grace Kariotis (New Gloucester, Maine) and Priscila Berdeja (Acapulco, Mexico) contributed 29 points off the bench and a combined seven three-pointers. First-year Lauryn Fagan (Standish, Maine) recorded her second career double-double going for 14 points and 12 rebounds in the Lady Wolves' winning effort.

Hampshire was steered by Lena Trieger who finished with 10 points and 13 boards.

SMCC keeps pace as the two-seed in the conference standings at 11-2, 16-6 overall. Hampshire dips to 1-10 in YSCC play, 2-10 on the season.

SMCC will finish a two-game road stint at NHTI on Thursday, Feb. 1. Spanning 38 meetings all-time, the SeaWolves are winners of 20, defeating the Lynx by a three-point spread in November. Tip off in Concord, N.H. is set for 6 p.m. Watch the action live HERE.
