CONCORD, N.H.— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team, entering play ranked #6 in the latest edition of the national coaches poll, was handed just its third Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) loss of the season 73-47 at #9 NHTI on Thursday, Feb. 1.

The Lady SeaWolves led after one quarter 13-9, powered by eight points from first-year Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine). SMCC opened the second with a bucket but were victims of a 16-3 run and 21-11 quarter by the Lynx.

SMCC couldn't stop the bleeding as the home team posted 25 in the third quarter, nine sponsored by Michaella Biron, to go ahead by a 19-point spread to begin the fourth. The SeaWolves did their best to play catch-up but were held to their second-lowest point of the season.

Brett led all scorers in the game with 22; first-year Abigail Ramirez (Methuen, Mass.) finished with nine rebounds to bring her total to 122 on the season.

Four contributed double-digit point totals for the Lynx paced by Melissa Martel at 17. Riselly Deoleo, who leads the conference in scoring, logged 15 points and added seven rebounds, five assists, and six steals in a complete effort.

SMCC remains tied for #2 in the YSCC table at 11-3 in league action, 16-7 overall. The Lynx shrink their gap at 10-4 in conference, 18-5 overall.

The action continues when the SeaWolves host the Fighting Saints from the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) as part of the Timothy D. Hagerman Alumni Day festivities on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. Watch the action live by tuning into SeaWolves TV!

T-shirts will be available for purchase for $20 as all proceeds go to the Timothy D. Hagerman scholarship.
