NHTI Women’s Basketball Sink Clippers in YSCC First Round

CONCORD, N.H. – The NHTI women's basketball team ran past the University of Maine Machias, 70-53 in the first round of the Yankee Small College Conference tournament Thursday evening.

The four seeded Lynx jumped out to a 16-12 lead after the first quarter, only losing the lead once early on. NHTI senior Riselly Deoleo (Manchester, N.H.) scored 12 of her game-high 26 points in the first frame. Deoleo added 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Junior Melissa Martel (Derry, N.H.) chipped in 13 points.

The Clippers were led by freshman Caitlyn Lyons (Lubec, Maine) with 19 points. Sophomore Linda Riley (Jackman, Maine) added 17 points and nine boards.

The Lynx outscored UMM 22-11 in the second quarter to head into the break ahead 38-23. NHTI controlled the second half for the victory.

The Lynx improve to 20-9 and will take on the top seeded Central Maine Community College Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the YSCC semifinals. The Clippers finish the season 10-18.

NHTI dropped both regular season games against CMCC.
