SeaWolves Fend Off Knights, Improve to 10-0

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team reached the double-digit win mark with a 90-56 victory over the Knights from Vermont Technical College (VTC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) contest on Saturday, Dec. 8.

As a team, SMCC connected for 43.6 percent from the floor on 78 shot attempts to outscore the Knights in each quarter. The SeaWolves forced the Knights into converting on just 29 percent from the field. The home team battled on the boards collecting its highest defensive rebound total of the year (41).

The SeaWolves recorded 20 assists much to do with sophomore captain Abigail Ramirez's (Methuen, Mass.) 9. This the difference in a triple-double for Ramirez who finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Sophomore Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) led all scorers in the game with 28 and 14 rebounds. First-year Hanna St. Pierre (Jay, Maine) matched a season-high 10 points over 34 minutes and junior Nyakuoth Mach (Des Moines, Iowa) came off the bench to contribute 23 points shooting near 50 percent.

VTC's Jordanna Morris led her team with 26 points on 9-21 shooting and Quanisha Ferrol used all 40 minutes to log 13 boards and four blocks.

The result pushes SMCC to a perfect 10-0 record, 6-0 in conference play. The Knights ruin a six-game win streak to slip to 7-4 overall, 4-3 YSCC.

The action continues when the Lady Wolves travel to Central Maine Community College on Wednesday, Dec.12 for part one of "the best small college basketball rivalry in Maine." Tip-off in Auburn is set for 6 p.m. WATCH.
