Lady SeaWolves Outmatched To Begin Second Semester

WARWICK, R.I.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team suffered its second road loss of the season 73-54 to the Knights of the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in a non-conference contest on Saturday, Jan. 5.

The Lady SeaWolves were outmatched in three quarters and only managed five points in the fourth to record their third lowest point total of the year.

Junior captain Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) and sophomore Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) were those who connected for more than one field goal against a stifling Knight defense. Hogan broke the spell from three and knocked down a season-high four to finish with 12 points. Brett was able to produce inside and get to the line where she made 10-11—this her sixth game with 20 or more points.

CCRI's Jada Littlejohn and Kat Raposa combined for 46 points, Tatyana Correia contributed 11 boards.

SMCC drops its second in a row to stand 10-2 overall and remain 6-1 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play. The Knights pick up their first win at home and improve to 5-9 overall.

Head Coach Katie Bergeron concluded, "We battled for three quarters on the road, but we need to be better in the fourth and convert buckets when it matters most. The first one back from break is always a challenge, especially on the road, but we look forward to finding our groove in Augusta on Wednesday."

The SeaWolves get back to conference scheduling when they travel to the Augusta Civic Center to take on the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta on Wednesday, Jan. 9. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. WATCH.
