Brett Goes For 30, Lady Wolves Break Two-Game Skid

AUGUSTA, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team ran away with an 86-59 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory over the University of Maine at Augusta Moose on Thursday, Jan. 10.

The SeaWolves turned on the offense for 23 or more points in each of the first three quarters, adding 11 in the final 10 minutes. As a team, SMCC made 9-28 from beyond the arc and out-rebounded the opposition by 26. The SeaWolves never surrendered the lead, getting help from their bench with 26 points.  

Sophomore Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) piled a season-high 30 points to go along with 13 rebounds and her sixth double-double of the year. The five-foot nine-inch forward connected on 11-20 from the field and added three assists. Her trusty counterpart and sophomore captain Abigail Ramirez (Methuen, Mass.) finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Junior Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) made four threes for the second consecutive game.

UMA's Mallory Chamberlain led her team with 15 points; Emily Billings contributed 13.

With the result, SMCC pushes to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Moose drop to 6-9 overall, 4-4 YSCC.

The Lady Wolves move on to host Paul Smith's College in another YSCC game on Timothy Hagerman Alumni Day Saturday, Jan. 12. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. followed by the basketball alumni games at 5/5:30 p.m. WATCH.
