Brett Flushes 40, Lady Wolves Win Eighth Straight

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team defeated the Lynx from NHTI 75-49 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tilt at The HUB on Thursday, Jan. 31.

After a back-and-forth affair in the first quarter, SMCC buckled down on the defensive end to gain some separation in the second. Sophomore captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) dropped 10 of SMCC's 14 points in the third to set up a lopsided fourth quarter in favor of the home team.

Brett caught fire for a career high 40 points on 17-33 from the field. She added 13 boards and four blocks in a dominating 34 minutes of work. Junior Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) rattled off her first double-double of the season with 10 points and a career high 14 rebounds and sophomore captain Abigail Ramirez (Portland, Maine) went for 13 points and nine assists—inching her way closer to the #2 SMCC all-time ranking.

Four finished in double figures for the Lynx—both Michaella Biron and Olivia Langevin with 11.

The key to the game was the SeaWolves' ability to execute on the offensive end, converting on twice the shooting percentage as the opposition.

SMCC is the first team to get to 13 conference wins, standing 18-2 overall. NHTI slips back to .500 at 6-6 in league play, 10-10 overall.

The action continues when the Lady Wolves travel to Newport, R.I. for a non-conference meeting with the Naval Academy Preparatory School on Saturday, Feb. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
