SeaWolves Solidify YSCC #2 Seed With Comeback Victory at VTC

RANDOPLH, Vt.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team used a fourth quarter comeback to overcome the Knights of Vermont Technical College (VTC) in the final Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) regular season contest Saturday, Feb. 9.

Three combined for 43 of the SeaWolves' 63 total points. Sophomore captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) and junior captain Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) both threw in 15, but the spark to the potent SMCC offense came from point guard Abigail Ramirez's (Portland, Maine) dominant stat line—13 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals.

The Lady Wolves were victim of the turnover-bug in the first half, troubled with 15 against 28.0 percent shooting from the floor. Ahead by one to start the fourth quarter, SMCC scored the first two buckets to eventually allow the Knights a two-point advantage with 5:46 remaining in the game.

The road team turned it on and used a 12-0 run, compliments of five different players, to climb ahead and play out a 14-point victory.

VTC's Quanisha Ferrol led her team with 14 points and 10 rebounds—Kiana Royer pulled down 12 rebounds, eight offensive.

The SeaWolves were able to capitalize on the Knights' ineffective 19.5 percent from the floor.
