SMCC Women Wrap Season On High Note

UNIONTOWN, Penn.—The #8-seeded Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball program finished the 2018-19 season with a 61-50 victory over #10 University of Maine at Machias (UMM) in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament consolation round on Monday, Mar. 4.

SMCC outscored the all-too familiar Clippers in three quarters of a contest that highlighted one tie and four lead changes. The SeaWolves assisted on 17 of their 25 made baskets and out-rebounded the opposition by nine. Coach Bergeron's bench poured in 19 to help SMCC to its fourth win of the season over their Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) counterpart.

The SeaWolves landed four in double figures led by sophomore captain Amanda Brett's (Portland, Maine) 18 in 29 minutes of action. Sophomore Lauryn Fagan (Standish, Maine) topped out at 11 points, scoring a combined 30 points in her USCAA appearance. Both sophomore captain Abigail Ramirez (Portland, Maine) and first-year Kaitlyn Feltis (Newcastle, Maine) chipped in 10—a season high for Feltis.

UMM's All-American selection Tate Dolley led her squad with 24 points and 11 rebounds—making 12-15 from the free-throw line.

SMCC concludes its season at 23-6 overall, making its eighth USCAA National Tournament appearance in program history. Other postseason honors included:

  • 2 YSCC All-Conference selections: Amanda Brett, Abigail Ramirez
  • 1 YSCC Player of the Year: Amanda Brett
  • 2 USCAA Academic All-Americans: Lauryn Fagan, Adrianna White
  • 2 USCAA All-Americans: Amanda Brett (First Team), Abigail Ramirez (Second Team)
