Mustangs Beat Bobcats 93-64, Move to 20-0
Paul Smiths, NY – CMCC Women's Basketball continued its busy January with a 93-64 on the road against Paul Smith's College. The Mustangs had four players finish in double figures after scoring at least 20 points in all four quarters of Sunday's game.
Ava Smith set a new career high of 29 points to lead the scoring effort. It was her fifth 20+ point game of the season and second of the weekend after tallying 23 against Word of Life. Jenny Chaput equaled her best outing in a Central Maine jersey, putting up 18 points on an 8-for-8 shooting day from the field.
Ella Lavigne added 12 points to continue her streak of scoring double digit points in all 19 games she's appeared in, while adding eight rebounds and four steals. Farah Attallah meanwhile finished with 11 points. The Alexandria, Egypt native has been on a tear of late, combining for 60 points in her last four contests.
Many of those baskets came from point guard Stella Laubenstein. The first-year out of Austin, TX dealt out a career-best 10 assists in just 22 minutes of work. Riley Hebler went for seven and Marney Rees and Cassie Ririnui both added four points off the bench. Chantel Ouellette continued to mark her return to the team, shooting 3-for-7 for a six-point afternoon.
Central Maine was again good on the boards, pulling down 42 rebounds compared to PSC's 26. The Bobcats were paced by Holly Bagley with a team-high 22 and went into the locker room down 48-33. However, the hosts struggled to keep pace down the stretch, scoring only seven points in the fourth quarter after a strong start to the second half.
The Mustangs next set their sights on a home meeting with UMaine-Augusta on Wednesday, January 29th. The teams are first and second in the YSCC standings and are separated by five positions in the USCAA D2 national poll. CMCC sits at #1 while UMA is currently ranked #6. Tip-off against the Moose is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
