SMCC Women Sweep Vermont Tech In Road Trip

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. (SMCC) —The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team recorded its second shutout in as many days to pick up its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) win in an 8-0 rout of Vermont Technical College (VTC) on Sunday, Sept. 9.

It was all SeaWolves from the opening whistle as the road team maintained possession and clambered the goal frame with goal scoring chances. Senior Emily Harris (Dayton, Maine) buried a penalty kick at 32:38 to get SMCC on the board. Sophomore Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) scored five minutes later on a cross from first-year Yaya Dunn (Kittery, Maine), and Harris finished the half with her second of the game to extend the lead by three goals.

O'Brien and Harris both finished the contest with hat tricks—O'Brien with her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Junior Jessica Haskell (Saco, Maine) scored the final two to cap a five-goal second half and push the SeaWolves to 3-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 in league action.

VTC stoops to 0-3-0 overall, 0-2-0 YSCC.

The Lady SeaWolves welcome YSCC-rival Central Maine Community College (1-1) to South Portland on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. LIVE STATS: https://www.gosmccseawolves.com/sports/wsoc/2018-19/boxscores/20180911_0e5r.xml
