SeaWolves Win Away, Roll To Fourth YSCC Victory

AMHERST, Mass.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team continued its perfect start on Saturday, Sept. 22 defeating Hampshire College 4-0 to pick up its fourth Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory of 2018.

After a 0-0 lock in the first half, sophomore co-captain Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) was able to turn a defender and over-power the Hampshire keeper for the first score of the game at 54:00. Three minutes later, first-year Ryleigh Lord (Pittsfield, Maine) made it to the back post in time to walk in the second goal of the contest on a cross delivered by first-year Katelin Bennett (Freedom, Maine).

Junior Jessica Haskell (Saco, Maine) joined in with her 10th goal of the season at 60:00 (assisted by R. Lord) and O'Brien with her conference-leading 12th at 75:00. O'Brien has scored in each of the SeaWolves' six games thus far and ranks atop the YSCC leaderboard in points (27).

First-year goalkeeper Dana Sirois (Saco, Maine) turned away a penalty kick in the first half to go along with three other saves to put the stamp on SMCC's fourth clean sheet of the season.

Head Coach Ethan Wells commented, "We made some key adjustments at the half to help us regain our composure on the ball and build from the back. It's not how you start, it how you finish—and that's how this team has been successful home and away."

SMCC remains ahead in the YSCC table at 4-0, 6-0 overall. Hampshire slips to 0-2 in conference play.

The Lady Wolves are back in action on next Saturday, Sept. 29 when they host the Knights from the Community College of Rhode Island in a non-conference match beginning at 1 p.m. LIVE STATS.
