SMCC Women First USCAA Team To 10 Wins

AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team won its 10th game of the season in a 3-0 result over the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

First-year Bernise Bartlett (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) made headlines with her first collegiate goal on a come-backer from beyond the box in the 35th minute. More action in the second half featured senior captain Emily Harris(Dayton, Maine) converting on a penalty kick for her fifth goal of the season, and junior Jessica Haskell (Saco, Maine) finishing on a ball from sophomore captain Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) to put the road team up by three scores and keep the perfect away record intact (5-0).

The SeaWolf defense anchored by first-years Ashley Atwater (Saco, Maine), Paige Lord (Pittsfield, Maine), Brenna Frye (Lebanon, Maine), and junior Sophia Zidow (Scarborough, Maine) didn't allow the Mustangs a shot to pitch another shutout and improve on their 0.64 goals-against-average.

SMCC improves to 10-1 overall and remains 5-1 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play. CMCC concludes its regular season at 5-7 overall, and will get a #4 bid to the YSCC Final Four playoffs sporting a 4-3 conference record.

The Lady SeaWolves get back to action when they host the Rams from Unity College on Senior Day this Saturday, Oct. 20. Kickoff at Wainwright Recreation Complex is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. LIVE STATS.
