BRIDGTON, Maine— In a tightly contested game, Bridgton Academy edged out the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team 2-1 on Friday, Sept. 27.
The Seawolves' bats were active throughout the game, outhitting Bridgton 7-2, but they struggled to convert their opportunities into runs leaving several stranded. Sophomore Max Noto (Wentzville, Mo.) pitched to a solid outing giving up just two hits and going the distance in the loss.
The Wolverines, on the other hand, made the most of their limited hits, scoring both of their runs on key opportunities in the last two innings. Their pitching and defense held strong under pressure, limiting the Seawolves to just one run despite the barrage of hits. The game remained close until the final out, when Bridgton walked it off in the bottom of the seventh.
Junior Zach Oliver (Gloucester, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Rowland (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada) recorded two hits apiece.
The result moves SMCC to 5-6 on the season.
The Seawolves return to the diamond next Friday, Oct. 4 at NHTI. First pitch in Concord, N.H. is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
