Louis Nets 1,000 Career Points as Bobcats Fall to Mustangs
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College women's basketball team went toe to toe with #1 ranked and undefeated Central Maine CC on Sunday, forcing the Mustangs to sweat until they pulled away late in fourth quarter in the 93-64 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) showdown.
Senior guard Jordan Louis (Crystal, NM) needed just eight points heading into the game to reach the 1,000-career-point mark, something that few basketball players have achieved at Paul Smith's College.
It wouldn't take long for Louis to get there.
Early in the second half, the Crystal, New Mexico native collected a pass from a teammate from beyond the 3-point arc and drilled a long distance three - something she has been known to do time after time as a Bobcat. After a quick rush and layup from the Mustangs and with the Bobcats back in control of the ball, the buzzer sounded and the officials blew their whistles to commemorate and acknowledge the rare feat.
"It's a big thank you to every teammate I've stepped on the court with," said Louis, reflecting on hitting 1,000 career points. She continued, stating she "Couldn't have done it without them as well as the trust and support that Mercedes and Brad have had in me since we met."
Mercedes Rideout is the current head coach of the Bobcats - she took over halfway through the season for her father, former head coach Brad Rideout, who had helped guide Louis and the Bobcats to their first top-10 United States Collegiate Athletic Associstion (USCAA) ranking in years. The elder Rideout also coached the younger Rideout, who herself hit 1,000 career points while at Green Mountain College while playing for her father.
"Having reached the 1,000-point milestone myself, I understand the dedication and effort it takes to achieve such an incredible feat," said Rideout.
"Congratulations to Jordan on this outstanding accomplishment - it's a testament not only to her hard work and passion for the game but also the support and contribution of her teammates along the way," added Rideout.
It was that support and contribution from the team which made the game against the top-ranked Mustangs so close. Holly Bagley (Bloomfield, NY) and DaVyne Johnson (Phoenix, AZ) netted 22 and 15 points, respectively, followed closely by Louis with 13 as the Bobcats kept the game close up until the fourth quarter. Finnley Jacobson (Vergennes, VT) contributed eight points, nine rebounds, and four assists as the primary worker in the paint. Jillian York (Largo, FL) added four points while Delaney Curley (Montrose, PA) and Carley Simmons (Huevelton, NY) tallied a point each off the bench.
The Bobcats are in fourth place in the YSCC at 5-5 and sit at 8-8 overall. They are currently ranked 12th in the nation in USCAA Women's D2 Basketball and look to climb the ranks as they close out the season.
