Bobcats Dominate in Season Opener with Standout Performances Across the Board
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College Women's Basketball Team kicked off their season in style, delivering a strong opening win through a balanced team effort and impressive individual contributions. From start to finish, the Bobcats displayed depth, grit, and teamwork, giving fans plenty to cheer about in their season debut as they defeated the Word of Life Bible Institute Huskies 84-15.
Leading the team, junior guard DaVyne Johnson (Phoenix, AZ) posted a standout performance, scoring 19 points along with three rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Johnson's offensive drive set the tone for the game, while her defensive tenacity kept the opposing team on their heels. Finnley Jacobson (Vergennes, VT) put up a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, along with two blocks that underscored her presence in the paint.
Holly Bagley (Bloomfileld, NY) shined on both ends of the court, racking up 15 points, nine steals, seven rebounds, and six assists.
When asked for a quote about her individual performance, Bagley deferred and chose to emphasize the team mentality that the Bobcats have adopted, responding "Play as a team, win as a team," speaking for the Bobcat collective.
Bagley's contributions were essential in both disrupting the opposition's play and creating opportunities for her teammates. Meanwhile, Jordan Louis added 14 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and three steals, displaying her playmaking ability and keen eye for finding open teammates.
The Bobcats' roster depth was evident as Jillian York (Largo, FL) also contributed significantly, securing a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds along with two assists. Additionally, Delaney Curley (Montrose, PA) rounded out the team's well-balanced performance with eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and four points.
The Bobcats now set their sights on their next challenge, a home game against Bard College on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 PM. With the momentum from their season opener, the team is eager to build on their success and keep the energy high.
