WATERVILLE, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team began it's season on the road against NCAA Div. 3 Thomas College on Thursday Sept. 5.

In the first half, the Terriers were able to get on the scoreboard first with a goal by Yabriel Pena which was assisted by Abigail Lerman in the 28th minute. The Terriers would quickly be on the attack again, finding the back of the net in the 32nd minute. The goal was scored by Brianne Benecke and assisted by Serenia Ahumada. The Sewolves would go into halftime down two goals.

The Terriers continued to come out strong in the second half, landing a goal scored by Emily Gutierrez in the 55th minute, assisted by Mary Larochelle. The Seawolves would respond in the 62nd minute when sophomore Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine) scored off a penalty kick. The Seawolves were unable to find another goal, leading them to begin their season 0-1.

The Terriers strong offensive performance doubled the amount of shots taken by the Seawolves, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Next, the Seawolves will be traveling to NJCAA Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) on Saturday Sept. 7. Kickoff in Lincoln, Rhode Island is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
