
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College defeated Paul Smith's College 59-45 in a YSCC in conference matchup at The HUB Athletics Center on Saturday afternoon.
SUMMARY
The Seawolves relied on strong defense and efficient free-throw shooting to earn their fourth YSCC victory of the season. SMCC held the Bobcats to just 23% shooting from the field while controlling the boards with a 49-36 rebounding advantage. The Seawolves capitalized on 16 points off turnovers and outscored their opponent 26-6 in the paint.
Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) led the Seawolves with 12 points and four assists, while Abby Roy (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) added eight points, including 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Jade Trueman(Sanbornville, N.H.) contributed nine points and seven rebounds, and Skyler Tinker (Lubec, Maine) made an impact off the bench with four points and 11 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SMCC was on top 27-21 heading into halftime, leaning on their defense to force tough shots and create transition opportunities. Milo Seams (South Paris, Maine) led the team in scoring at the half with six points in the first quarter and finishing with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Bobcats made a push in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to 39-37 at the start of the final frame. However, the Seawolves' depth helped secure the win. Tinker grabbed five rebounds in the second half tallying 11 throughout the game, while Trueman and Roy combined for eight fourth-quarter points to pull away. SMCC sealed the victory at the free throw line, sinking 12 of their 14 attempts in the final quarter.
