LINCOLN, R.I. – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team traveled down to NJCAA Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) on Saturday Sept. 7.
The Seawolves at the end of the first half were down 0-1 against the Knights. In the second half, SMCC would respond with a goal scored by sophomore Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine) that was assisted by freshman Ellie Schlichting (New Gloucester, Maine) to even the score 1-1.
The Seawolves would then take the lead when sophomore Leah Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) found the back of the net off an assist from freshman Marissa Hill (Portland, Maine), putting the Seawolves up 2-1.
The strong offensive second half performance by the Seawolves would continue when sophomore Jocelyn Civiello (Sanford, Maine) scored her first of the season on a cross by captain Jordyn Hulsey (South Portland, Maine), to extend the Seawolves lead to 3-1. The three straight goals scored by SMCC would diminish the Knights chances of recapturing the lead, securing the Seawolves first victory of the season.
The tremendous second half comeback by the Seawolves improves their record to 1-1 on the season.
The Seawolves will return home to begin Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play against NHTI on Tuesday Sept. 10. Kickoff at Wainwright Sports Complex is scheduled for 3:30pm.
