SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team earned a victory over the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) at Wainwright Sports Complex on Friday Sept. 13.
The Seawolves would get on the scoreboard first when sophomore Jadyn Eastman (South Berwick, Maine) found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine). The Moose would answer quickly in the 22nd minute when Gabby Allen scored a lone goal, to even the score 1-1.
SMCC would retake the lead in the 28th minute when sophomore Jocelyn Civiello (Sanford, Maine) scored a goal assisted by both freshman Ellie Schlichting (New Gloucester, Maine) and sophomore Talia Bradbury (South Portland, Maine). The Seawolves extended their lead when Schlichting scored her first career goal off another assist by Bradbury to make it 3-1 before the half.
In the second, the Seawolves would increase their lead in the 59th minute when sophomore Isabella Tanis (Brewer, Maine) netted her first of the season courtesy of a delivery by Civiello. The Seawolves would be on the attack again, scoring another goal at the 60th minute, this one by Fournier— her third goal of the season.
Schlichting scored her second goal on a ball by Fournier in the 68th minute of the game, increasing the SMCC lead to 6-1.
The Moose would give one last effort when Allen found the back of the net for the second time, but the goal scored by sophomore Leah Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) off a free kick would secure the Seawolves 7-2 victory over the Moose.
Freshman Aubrey Gilbert (Farmingdale, Maine) recorded five saves for the Seawolves.
The result moves SMCC to 2-1-1 on the season.
