Lady Bobcats Blank VSU Randolph 10-0 Behind Bradt’s Hat Trick
Randolph Center, VT ~ For the first time in her collegiate soccer career, senior captain Haven Bradt (Berea, OH) scored a hat trick on the pitch. The senior back isn't normally the one leading the way on the score sheet, but Saturday's Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) matchup at the Vermont State University at Randolph saw her bury three goals as the Bobcats blanked the Knights 10-0.
Fellow senior Hayleigh Gates (West Winfield, NY) started the scoring early on in the 3rd minute to set the tone for the rest of the game. Soon after Gates' opener, graduate student Grace Kronick (Berkshire, MA) added two goals of her own to make it 3-0. The scoring onslaught continued for the rest of the first half as Katrien Roefs (Bainbridge, NY), Haven Bradt, and Delani Osborne (Fort Duchesne, UT) gave the Bobcats a 6-0 lead going into the break.
Head coach Kelvey McGinnis was complimentary of her team's performance, reflecting that "We were trying some new things out and the team responded very well."
The ten goals is the most the Bobcats have scored in a single game since September 7th, also a 10-0 against Finger Lakes CC.
"We created great opportunities for ourselves and finished 10 great goals. I'm hoping the team will use this win as motivation for the rest of the regular season," added McGinnis.
It was more of the same in the second half as Bradt completed her hat trick with the first two goals of the half in the 49th and 58th minutes, with assists going to Gates and Roefs. Gates and Micaela Diller (Marlton, NJ) finished off the scoring as PSC rolled to victory.
"I'm really proud of how the team played against VTC," said Bradt.
"We had been working on a game plan the week before and I think we executed it perfectly. Everyone on the team gave it their all and I can't wait to see what else we have in store for the rest of the season!" she exclaimed.
The Bobcats tried out a new formation in the game, and it seemed to spark the offense.
"We practiced our new formation tirelessly, and it paid off as we got a fresh feel for the game and applied what we learned," recalled Grace Kronick, who has been with the team since the 2020 season.
